Linking Assets with QR Codes

AssetChief makes interfacing with your assets super convenient. If the asset you added is a tangible (physical) asset, then you can place a QR code on it (or NFC tag) so you can easily scan that asset from your phone and see all the information about the asset right at your fingertips, and even add work orders or inspections.

The simplest way to do this is to bring up an asset on the screen, then click the QR code icon at the top-right corner of the screen. Print out that QR code. Now, every time you scan that QR code it will bring up that asset on your phone.

QR Code labels are another option for mapping the asset to AssetChief.

To do this, before you head out, print out QR Codes from AssetChief. You do this by going to the Reports button, and selecting "Pre-Printed QR Codes".

Once you run the report (choose 2 pages to start with), it'll look something like this:

Next print them out onto label paper, and bring them with you when you visit the assets. At the asset just stick them on. If they're outside, you can also cover them with some kind of lamination to protect them from the elements.

Next, bring up the asset on your phone (or add the asset if it's a new asset), go to a QR Code scanner app on your phone and scan the label. Because it's the first time the label has been scanned, it'll automatically map it to the asset you just viewed.

From that point onwards, scanning that QR code from any phone will bring up that asset, where you'll be able to access documentation, edit the availability, start a work order and much more.

Each QR code uses a shortened URL to the asset. You can likewise use this URL by writing it to an NFC tag, which provides an even simpler way to invoke the asset and bring it up on your smartphone.
