Concepts

There are a number of concepts referenced in AssetChief that are useful to understand before using the product.

The first is an asset. What is an asset? An asset can be any kind of physical or intangible "thing" that is of value to you. Usually it's something that needs to be maintained and tracked in some way.

Then there is the concept of an Asset Type. This would be the type of asset - just as your Samsung 52" 4K TV is of the asset type "Television". Associating an asset with an Asset Type can be useful in grouping assets together.

A Request is a form submitted by a user that usually requests something related to a particular asset.

Once entered, requests become either Approvals or Tasks. An Approval is a kind of task that must be reviewed and then approved or rejected by someone with authority. A task is something that must be completed by whoever is assigned the work.

Often requests become both approvals and tasks. First, for example, approval must be sought to have the work done. Once the approval is given, then it will be assigned to a worker to complete.

Every asset should have an Asset Supervisor. The Asset Supervisor is the one who is primarily responsible for work related to that asset. Sometimes they will do the work themselves, other times they will forward the request onto someone else who can do the work.

Assets can also be locations. These are actual places where other assets reside. In this case the Asset Supervisor is the person responsible for authorizing access to the location.
