Metering / Instrumentation

Assets have all kinds of variables associated with them. Cars have fuel and oil gauges, printers have ink remaining, computers have disk space remaining. Another type of variable is inventory count for assets that represent a collection of smaller assets.

All of these variables are stored in something called a "meter", and you'll find this in the Instrumentation drilldown under the asset:

An asset can have any number of instruments, and they don't really need setting up. You can go to the Instrumentation section to view the meter value history at any time by clicking the hamburger icon next to the asset and selecting Instrumentation.

To add an instrument to an asset, so you can monitor it, click the '+' icon.

The main way to update the current values of an instrument is to click the "Enter Reading" button. Here you select the meter type and the current value. If you have triggers defined, these will be checked when the value is entered.
